“Adobe buildings of Iran” (Part 2)

*Arg-e-KarimKhan*
This is a glorious memorial of Zandieh era and one of the most important historical places in Shiraz. Karim khan chose Shiraz after he became the king. He had different ideas about buildings in his mind which this structure is one of them. This is a combination of Safavie architecture and the remains of Persepolis. This building is divided into two parts which one of them is military and other is residential. The materials which are used in this structure are clay and stone which most of them are marbles. There is also a kind of limestone famous as “Gandomak”. [image: image.png] [image: image.png] [image: image.png] [image: image.png] [image: image.png] [image: image.png]
*Ghortan *
In Varzaneh in Isfahan there is a village called Ghortan which includes a citadel called Ghortan that is the second great adobe building of Iran. It was built 1100 years ago and it’s about 5 hectares. This place at first was named as Gurtan, Gur in Persian means zebra and because of the great number of zebras in this area it was called Gurtan. After Arab’s entered in this area the name changed to Ghortan because they don’t have “G” in their alphabet.
There are 1324 people, living in this area who talk in their native dialect which is a branch of Zoroaster and it is called “Velayati”. [image: image.png] [image: image.png] [image: image.png] [image: image.png] [image: image.png] [image: image.png]
*Narin Castle*
Another city in Iran which is the world first adobe city and second ancient city in the world is Yazd. In this city there is several adobe building which the most famous one is Narin castle. This castle is the world’s oldest adobe structure which is in Meybod. It is also called Kohan-Dezh which means the old fortress. There is no country in the world who claims to have a structure older than this one. It was built on a hill and it has a view of the whole city. [image: image.png] [image: image.png]
There are different other cities in Iran which include adobe structures; Pade village is one of them. Pade is located in Semnan Province. Recently it is a rebuilding project in Pade for saving ancient adobe buildings. Sometimes natural causes like acid rains and earthquakes are destroying this glorious symbol of history but sometimes there are people playing roles in destroying and building new things.
As people who care about historical heritage it’s our duty to keep this highlights safe and we should not contributing in forgetting the symbols of our past.

I do love the manner in which you have framed this particular issue and it really does supply me some fodder for consideration. On the other hand, from just what I have experienced, I only trust when the commentary stack on that people stay on point and not get started upon a tirade of the news of the day. Still, thank you for this excellent point and although I can not go along with the idea in totality, I respect the standpoint.
